Frequently asked Questions about Homeopathy and Health

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a specialised system of healing which is based on the principle of like cures like. It means that a substance which produces a set of symptoms has the ability to cure similar symptoms in a sick person. Eg Coffee produces a state of sleeplessness, headaches, anxiety etc in people. A Homeopathic remedy prepared from Coffee has been effectively used by Homeopaths to treat a similar state of insomnia associated with headaches and jitteriness in a patient.
Currently Homeopathy is acknowledged by the World Health Organisation and is becoming increasingly popular all across the world especially in UK, North and South America, Europe and South Africa. In Germany and Netherlands many medical doctors include Homeopathy in their practice. In India it is accepted in the government health care system and Homeopaths are trained as medical doctors.

You can read more about Homeopathy on the official website of the Australian Homoeopathic Association.

How is Homeopathy special?

The concept of disease is changing today. The world today sees the importance of body-mind relation and views disease as affection of the whole being. Recent research accepts that immune system has a big role in preventing chronic diseases and considers that a person is sick first and infections come later.
I believe Health is not just absence of symptoms and disease. Being healthy in the true sense is when you meet the demands of life fully and easily, enjoy life to the fullest without restrictions and reach your goals successfully resisting stress, illness and disease.
In my experience good Homeopathy has helped patients achieve that quality of life and level of health.
Homeopathy, apart from being non-toxic, holistic, cost-effective in the long run by having long lasting effects, makes real changes in people's lives. This is probably the greatest satisfaction any Homeopath can give and derive.

What can Homeopathy treat?

Homeopathy has been clinically used to treat various types of physical and emotional complaints. Some examples include:

  • Most non-specific allergies and problems such as hay fever, asthma and skin rashes,
  • Emotional depression, mood swings, anxiety, stress induced illnesses such as headaches, migraines, gastritis, ulcers.
  • Homeopathy is great for hormonal disturbances and fluid imbalances, Skin disorders such as eczema, herpes.
  • ENT and Respiratory disorders such as earaches, ear infections, sinusitis, colds and coughs.
  • Gastrointestinal disorders like indigestion, constipation, diarrhoeas, colic, irritable bowel syndrome.
  • Muscular and bone system disorders like muscular pains, arthritis.
  • For women it helps right from teenage acne, mood swings, and menstrual disorders to complaints during pregnancy, lactation and menopause.
  • Homeopathy can bring back the smile on your baby's face in recurrent fevers, infections as well as tummy upsets, nappy rashes and bed wetting. Most parents observe that their child is not only getting physically better but is also getting happier and less cranky and able to sleep better with the correct constitutional doses.

I'm confused! I read conflicting information about Homeopathy on the internet. Can you explain?

Having experienced both systems of health closely as a GP in India I believe that it is important to realise that my primary concern is health and wellbeing using the best of both systems.
I do not advocate delaying conventional medicines or replacing vaccinations and putting any patients at risk. Hence I encourage you to be in touch with your GP and any specialist doctors during your treatment.
Having said that, I speak from my experience of having successfully treated patients using Homeopathic medicines for a range of conditions mentioned before. Most cases had previously tried all options offered by conventional medicine and were unsatisfied with the conventional treatment options.
Helping them with Homeopathy to reach a level of health not possible before has been a great source of personal satisfaction to me. This keeps me going and researching every case that comes to me to give them the best I can offer.
If you are a first timer I encourage you to give Homeopathy a go as a viable alternative after having used all options and then make your own decision based on your experience.

What does the Homeopathic Consultation involve?

I need to select the best possible medicine for you tailored to your individuality and constitution; hence I want to understand you as a wholistic being, as a person, your nature, your reaction to various factors, as well as your past and family history. I follow a case taking process where I will be asking you certain specific questions that has a specific significance for me in understanding your deepest disturbance . Even if something that you might think is not connected to your chief problem could be the most important feature for choosing your correct remedy. I request your co-operation to help me help you to the best of my potential. Everything you say will be treated in the strictest confidence. In children sometimes it is important to understand the pregnancy history in the mother if the illness is traced back since birth. The initial consultation could last over an hour. In certain cases you will be given a choice of filling out a specifically prepared questionnaire. It greatly complements the case taking and fills in the gaps to give a complete picture, so very valuable for your case.
